Hey guys. Welcome back to Dee’s Mealz.
Today, I will be telling you how to prepare zobo drink. Zobo drink is one of our Nigerian popular drink that is prepare for home use, parties, get together and lots more.
Zobo drink is made using red zobo sepals which is also known as Roselle Hibiscus. There are two types, we have the light red zobo (called jan zobo in hausa) and the black zobo (normally called Bakin Zobo in Hausa).
From the name, we know that the color appears differently when prepared.
To prepare this drink today, we will be using the black zobo. A lot of ingredients are added when preparing this drink for flavor, great taste and for a pleasing scent. Ingredients like ginger, cloves which is locally called kayan kanshi in hausa, pineapple or pineapple peels etc.

I will be using pineapple peels to prepare today’s zobo drink today.
So, let’s begin cooking.
Ingredients
- 5 handfuls of zobo sepals
- 1 tablespoon of cloves
- 3 sachet of fresh Banana Flavor
- Pineapple Peels
- 7 pieces of ginger (fresh or dried)
- 1 medium size Cucumber
Preparation
Cut the pineapple peels into thin slices and wash thoroughly.

Pound the ginger and set aside.

Add the zobo sepals in a deep pot and add 8 liters of water.

Add the washed pineapple peels, the cloves and the ginger.

Cover the pot and set on heat to boil for 20 minutes.
Drop from heat after 20 minutes and allow to cool down.

When it’s cooled down, put a head tie like sieve in a bowl and turn the boiled zobo in it. Add a little water to the pot, rinse and turn in the bowl with the sieve and sieve.

Add 2 more liters of water to the sieved zobo, add the banana flavor and mix.
Chop the cucumber and add to the sieved zobo drink.

Your zobo drink is ready to be served or refrigerated.
Serve with a snack of choice.
