Peeled Beans

Beans are usually soaked for 20 – 30 minutes before washing or pounding to remove the peels or coats.

The soaking of the beans is done to soften the coats for easy removal and washing.

For easy washing of your beans, a wide bowl will be the best. It makes it easy to remove the coats of the beans while washing.

I will be telling you about these two methods in this post.

So, let’s begin.

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 cups of white beans.

PREPARATION

METHOD 1 – How To Peel Beans With Your Hands

Below is a video you can watch for how to peel beans with your hands.

Pick the dirt and stones from the beans if there are any.

Turn in a wide bowl and add enough water to the beans and mix.

Allow to soak for 30 minutes.

When the time is up, use your palms to scrub the beans. This is to enable the coats to come out faster.

Scrubbing begins

Note: Know that this method is mostly used for a small amount of beans.

Continue scrubbing till the coats or peels are off the beans.

Continuous-Scrubbing

METHOD 2 – How To Peel Beans Using A Mortar and Pestle

Pick the dirt and stones from the beans if there are any.

Turn in a wide bowl and add water until the water is a little over the beans.

Allow to soak for 20 minutes.

When the time is up, pack the beans out of the water and turn in the mortar.

Pound the beans using the pestle to remove the coats.

When the coats are out, turn in a wide bowl

WASHING PROCESS

So after using and of the two methods, the washing process begins.

Add enough water to the beans in the bowl.

Adding water to scrubbed beans

Get another wide bowl and put a basket in it.

Mix the beans well and turn the water in the empty bowl with the basket.

Scrub the beans more if there are left over beans with their coats.

Continuous Scrubbing

And continue washing.

When the water gets too concentrated, throw the water away.

Note: washing takes time when the water is concentrated or saturated.

Add clean water to the beans and continue washing.

Adding clean water

Throw out the water when all the peels are off the beans.

Add more clean water to the washed beans.

Pack out of the water into a new bowl and prepare either for Moimoi or Akara or Gbegiri soup.
